October usally means a long wait for the celebration of el día de los muertos... too long for us actually, so we're already celebrating:) Collecting some nice shootings of all those mexican skeletons (check tiki.tv on Vimeo for one of the original videos selected) and mixing them up with our own little compilation of home made latin re-edits! The original cuts selected from the musical vaults of Colombia, Panama & Peru might not have too much to do, nor with Mexico or with Día de los muertos but they certainly get the party started:) Enjoy!

It's become clear that Bonjay are about defying all odds and the latest release, a cover of "Jamelia" by Caribou, re-imagines the electronic abstract sound of Jamelia as a melancholic slice of clappy dancehall. Another part of the Prendas Públicas Mix Series, compiled by Kompis! Kompis!, was just released! Might just be the right soundtrack for the arty fashion party next weekend. From elegant vocal indie disco to synth pop to french electronic dance to... well, even more disco and finally some indie. Most of it released the last months or still even unreleased apart from the wonderful Aeroplane Remix of Friendly Fires' song 'Paris' which was released already in 2008. Reminiscin'... YO! MTV Raps

The other day a friend FB'd me a link to a YouTube-clip with Mary J Blige and Grand Puba performing "What's the 411?" live in the YO! MTV Raps studio. The tune is dope, and the performance is awesome... This made me reminisce how I used to watch YO! MTV Raps 1991-1994 to catch up with the latest jams from the states, crackin' up and laughing to the stupid jokes of hosts Dr Dre and Ed Lover, and watching Fab 5 Freddy's (what I at the time thought were quite silly) interviews with the main hip hop artists of those years. Hip hop was hardly played in Swedish radio and it was really difficult to find hip hop albums in the record stores. To get the freshest rap tunes I used to record the YO! MTV Raps shows on VHS, so I then could connect the TV to my HiFi and record the tracks I liked to cassettes and put together hip hop mixtapes. So, let me take you back in time and share some great LIVE moments from this brilliant TV show...

Keith 'Guru' Elam (1961-2010)

Since the news about Guru's last journey from planet earth, I've been listening non stop to his music. I've never been a hardcore Gang Starr fan, I don't even have half of the Guru related albums, but I realize that his music always has been in my life since I first discovered the tru essence of hip hop flavor. He was not the illest or most technical lyricist on the mic, but his monotone and always melancholic tone was unique and made a perfect match to Dj Premier's sharp beats filled with jazz, funk and soul. The music of Guru and Gang Starr will always remind me of what hip hop really is about... So here's my humble tribute to this legend, a minimix of my best and most played tracks of Guru and some of his most talented protégés. Rest in peace Guru!
